Cartographic Approach

Each globe captures the world at a moment in time. I prioritise de facto borders over de jure, and select settlements for regional or cultural relevance rather than size alone.

Endonyms are preferred where clear and recognisable, while English remains the primary language for legibility.

Mindful of the biases in traditional maps, I aim to create globes that reflect geography as dynamic, political, and deeply human.

Globes themselves form records of the world at a moment in time. Their cartography reflects the cultural interests, priorities, and politics of the societies in which they were created, and thus serves as an important historical document.

I see my work as continuing this legacy, producing globes of the highest accuracy and quality, while recognising a responsibility for the stories they will convey to future generations.

Black walnut and boxwood rolling stand

This contemporary stand is inspired by the printed horizons of historic globe stands. Elegant boxwood stringing inlaid into black walnut demarcates the cardinal and intercardinal directions, traditionally used to orient the globe to the magnetic poles.

A rolling bearing system allows unrestricted movement of the globe in all directions, creating an enchantingly tactile way to explore your world.

The stand is handmade to order in our dedicated workshop using sustainably sourced timber and traditional joinery techniques.

Freedom to explore
the whole world.

A portion of proceeds from each sale is donated to the QEST charity to support craft education in the U.K.
